Merry Hearts
I happen to have a mother, Charlotte, who is quite good (as good as Miss Marple in
solving a mystery) at noticing the joy in life whether it be through beauty, celebrations, nature, synchronicities, adventures, mysteries unfolding, music or yes, even chocolate. And her mother Eliza was the same and her mother Lottie, and who knows how many and who
beyond or alongside them...

I have noticed in my own life that in noting my day by day, season by season barometer of joy I experience the call to cultivate that ability - that recognizing the joy in life is a choice and if my "joy-spotting" eye is not looking, I can easily miss a day's treasures. Choosing to notice joy seems to be a moment by moment opportunity. And, as in solving a mystery, noticing the joy can be like having an eye out for clues.

What I choose to give my attention grows. And even with a bouquet of joy-women in my history, I must often quite consciously decide where to invest my energies. Drinking in the sight of forsythia blooming in winter or getting to the next task? Which feels better?
The choice may vary with the moment or the person. Slowing down long enough to be with the choice allows me to savor the experience in its fullness.

I have discerned for myself that my body doesn't lie. Which choice brings the deepest joy? How does it feeellll in my body? In my being?

I've learned the deepest joy may not always be what I would first think. That what might first seem a "top billing" joy is actually may be quite superficial and point to a layer
closer to home, "home" being my inner core self and my deepest knowings.

I've learned that for me following the deepest joy brings me more energy and I believe
more lifeforce flowing through my being.

So let me see....wild geese flying overhead at dusk, fox prints in the snow, my dog Goldy wagging and wagging and wagging his tail on a walk...a handwritten letter in the mailbox...watching the dance of flames of a fire in a fireplace or a bonfire...the sound of snow falling...the rhythms of the seasons and of the moon...Bossa Nova music...the air feeling so fresh...the act of lighting a candle...
