GATHERING THE THREADS

Quotes

"We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry,
and we must understand that all the
threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color."
                                                        ~ Maya Angelou

"Some people weave burlap into the fabric of life,
and some weave gold thread.
Both contribute to make
the whole picture beautiful and unique."

Gathering the Threads

Imagine life as a tapestry with each aspect of your life serving as thread for the tapestry.
Some threads perhaps are loved more dearly than others.
We have perhaps attempted to toss away other threads.
Some threads perhaps have been ignored or forgotten.
Some threads viewed alone may even seem distasteful or alien to who we believe we are.
Many threads may gain beauty, meaning or richness only when embraced into the whole.
Some may serve as contrast gifting us with clarity as to what we would prefer, adding depth to
the beauty of the weaving.
Does it seem that when we reject a thread that we notice it all the more; the thread calls for more of
our attention gaining an even stronger presence in our tapestry whereas when we are at peace with a
thread it begins to find its natural place in the design of the tapestry?
Does it seem that when we honor a thread the whole tapestry exudes a brighter shine?
We are each the weaver of our tapestry.
What is the most wondrous, truly energizing tapestry you might weave?

Recipe

Ponder the tapestry of your life with all its threads.
Does your tapestry energize or drain you?
If you prefer something different, what would that be?
A shifting of several threads or a major re-weaving?
Which threads do you cherish most?
Which threads in your life are waiting to be woven into the whole?
Are any loose ends dangling? Are there any knots?
How much energy is each knot holding?
Are there any rejected threads?
What place could these threads possibly have in the tapestry?
What care might they need to find their place?
Are any parts of the tapestry unraveling?
How might the design of your weaving be transformed as these threads
find their new places within the whole?
Are there threads you would like to gather yet in the future?
What are your knowings or imaginings about each of your threads and your tapestry as a whole?
When you have followed the dance of your threads where have they led you?
Where might they lead you next?
Play the "what if" game, if you like: "What if my tapestry ____? "
What is the most beautiful tapestry of your life you can imagine?
